Junior Cycle History - Hannah Bermingham

25 pages and the loss of feeling in my hand later, I've completed my Junior Cert History exam. This was very well balanced between source work, and questions pulled from our own knowledge.

Some of the most prominent topics that came up were the Famine, the 1916 rising and a choice between either World War 1 or 2. I really appreciated the choice for that question as I had studied WW2 in depth. We had a question from a brilliant book that I had already read, ‘I Was a Boy in Belson’ which is an autobiography by Tomi Reichental, and one that I highly recommend if you want to learn more about the Holocaust.

Then there was a question on the troubles, which was a topic I didn't feel overly prepared for, but I think it went ok!

Lastly was a source question on the GAA in Ireland and questions on finding sources of information about a named ‘sporting, cultural or social movement’ that impacted Irish life.

Overall if I was doing it again I think I would focus more on Irish history in the 1960s and onwards as a lot of my focus was on the chapters surrounding the Home Rule Crisis.

This exam was long but it had a really good range of questions, only 4 more to go!
