Irish Paper 2 - Aoibhínn’s Thoughts
Having just come back from writing roughly 3 hours’ worth of Irish, it is safe to say that I am happy to have another exam behind me.
Similar to Paper 1, I found Paper 2 to be very manageable even if I felt stuck for time at moments. The reading comprehensions on the work of Sister Stan and the impact of fast fashion felt very current given the housing and climate crisis’s we are facing at the moment. The grammar question 6.A on both comprehensions asked for the saor briathar with the modh coinníollach making an appearance in the latter.
The prós section of the exam was very much predicted with Cáca Milis and Dís serving as the main options. Of course I went with Cáca Milis as who could ever forget about all that went down on that train journey.
I felt very relieved when Mo ghrá-sa (idir lúibíní) served as one of the two options for the poetry question as it was also a favourite to come up this year. However, I would say many felt disappointed that it appeared alongside an tEarrach Thiar as opposed to Geibheann or Colscaradh.
For the litríocht bhreise I studied the play An Triail which is set in Ireland in the 1950’s/60’s. I felt that the question on the paper was very broad and open to various answers and interpretations which I liked as it allowed me to show off my knowledge of the drama.
