Who We Are

Who We Are

Founded in 2008, the ISSU is the national representative body for school students in the Republic of Ireland, led by students, for students. We exist to ensure that second-level students are recognised as key stakeholders in their education and in society, representing their voices at local, regional, national and international levels. As an organisation, we are committed to being transparent, democratic and reliable, working to build a fair and modern education system that reflects the needs and experiences of students across the country.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide second-level students with a strong, collective voice while promoting equal access to education and striving to eliminate discrimination and injustice within the Irish education system. We work to empower student councils to act as effective and democratic representative bodies within their school communities, and to support both individual students and councils in taking meaningful action. We are dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by students at every level, tackling inequalities linked to socio-economic background, and advocating for an education system that values every individual and enables all students to reach their full potential.
