Margaret’s Take on Spanish

¡Hola a todos! Today I sat my higher level Spanish exam. I think it went really well which I'm very grateful to be saying.

I always dread reading comprehension purely from the synonyms, such a small part that drives me crazy but today it felt slightly more manageable, the 100 mark comprehension was about languages and I found it really interesting to read, surprisingly I could read most of it. The questions were nice and the answers were easy to find and a nice comprehension topic leads to nice essay topics!

I found it really exciting to see what this year's opinion piece would be, they were all such good topics I found it hard to choose. I really enjoyed talking about how “nunca es Tarde para hacer algo diferente / it is never too late to do something different" as it felt relevant to my life at the moment trying new things as the leaving cert comes to an end.

The only thing that really threw me off was that the written exam was done first, although in the Irish exam the aural was first. Overall the listening was nice and I smiled when I saw F1 as my brother is a huge fan and I knew he would be interested. I often find listening a bit hard but since this would be my last one I found it slightly better. Though some questions were slightly difficult to understand I had to pause for a minute but eventually answered them!

The short comprehension was also really nice, it was funny to see their debate of “with onions or without onions” on a dish as well as katya echazarreta as the first Mexican woman to travel to space. It was honestly very nice and made me feel confident in the exam.

But nothing compares to those beautiful dialog questions and diary entries, it felt easy to do and the freedom to use simple vocabulary! I always love a good diary entry as I put myself in the shoes of the person I am pretending to be.

Overall it was a really nice exam! Like any exam there are difficult parts and easy parts so hopefully everyone was happy with the exam! ¡toda la suerte!
